We mournfully announce the passing of Jason Mark Chaffin, “Peanut”, 53, of Midland, TX. Jason passed away at his home on November 13, 2022.
Jason, born to John Ernest Chaffin and Connie Sue Leffler, took his first breath on September 20, 1969. Jason was a force to be reckoned with from the get go, living life on his terms, graduating from Midland High School in 1987, and joining the United States Marine Corp where he served in Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
After returning to Midland, Jason started exploring the states of Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas while working as a land surveyor. He was employed by several local companies including Watson and Associates, Topographic, John F. Watson and Company, and most recently SAM Surveying. Jason worked as a land surveyor with John F. Watson and Company for 15 years, where the people he worked with became more like family than coworkers. Through his many years of surveying, Jason met many ranchers, company men, and others who all have stories to share about him. You didn’t cross paths with Jason without picking up some story to share.
While Jason never married, he lived a full and vibrant life with more friends than you could count. His brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews, both by blood and not, meant more to Jason than words can describe. He was the most stubborn and hard-headed but soft-hearted person you could ever meet. If you needed help, Jason was only a phone call away.
Jason is survived by many loving individuals, including his mom, Connie Leffler; sister, Angel Sowers and husband Christopher; brother, Matthew Chaffin and wife Lola; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; as well as numerous relatives and friends.
He was proceeded in death by his brothers Danny and Richard Chaffin; paternal grandparents Ernest and Letha Chaffin; and maternal grandparents Eugene and Margaret Leffler.
We will miss Jason, aka Peanut, dearly. Have a drink, share a story, and Jason will “Catch ya on the flip side!”
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
