James W. Wilhoit passed away at home on January 12th. The oldest of seven children (James, Geraldine, Laverne, Marlene, Gary, Faye, and Frances), he grew up being active in 4-H club and working on his grandparents’ farm in Granbury. Having attended schools in McCauley, Archer City and Wichita Falls, he graduated in 1943. He served his country in the Army Air Corp and earned a bachelor’s degree in agriculture from Hardin College in 1950. James worked in the oil field industry until his retirement in the late 1980’s.
Growing up in Texas, he loved to fish, hunt, and camp out with his family. When playing card games and dominoes, he always had a winning strategy. He loved sharing the outdoors with all his nieces and nephews. Some of his fondest moments were in Archer City, and Northern New Mexico, where many family and friends enjoyed his fish fries.
There were many close friends through church in Midland, Wichita Falls, and Eagle’s Nest, NM. He is survived by his faithful wife of 73 years, Betty, his daughter, Ruth Ann, son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Rosie, and his granddaughter, Myca. A memorial service will be held at St. Luke’s Methodist Church, 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 21.
