James Rankin Woolf aka Poppie passed away February 15, 2025. The family will receive guests from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 21, 2025 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa.
Poppie was born on December 14, 1942. He married the love of his life Carol on February 27, 1970. He was proud to have worked for the City of Odessa for 28 years.
Poppie loved spending time with his family, pestering the grandkids, old cars, tinkering with toy trains, fixing old clocks and talking on his CB radios. He loved watching old westerns and listening to Elvis. Poppie had a heart of gold, never met a stranger and gave the best hugs. He never failed to be at the center of a conversation with a witty joke timed just right to have everyone laughing and smiling. He had a special fondness for every waitress and had high hopes that one would have a million bucks with his name on it.
In lieu of flowers, and in true Poppie fashion, “You got a million bucks?”
Rankin was preceded in death by his parents G.H. and Noreene Woolf, and granddaughter Kayla Grissom. He is survived by his wife Carol Woolf, son David Woolf, brothers: Dee Woolf (Carol), and Charles Woolf (Carolyn), granddaughters Britney Woolf, Sasha McEachern (Drew), great grandkids Zoe Woolf, Brynna and Ross McEachern, and many cousins and nieces/nephews.
Signing off, for the final time, Big Bad Woolf 10-7.
