James “PaPa” Cypert, 88, of Garden City, passed away Thursday, June 10, 2021. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at the Garden City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.
He was born March 18, 1933 in San Angelo and married Nita Graves August 30, 1952.
James attended school in San Angelo and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He moved to Garden City in 1955 and opened Cypert’s Garage, operating it for 65 years. He was a life member of the Glasscock County Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the Church of Christ in Garden City.
Survivors include two sons, Darrell Cypert and wife, Patricia, and Donald Cypert all of Garden City; four grandchildren, Bryan Cypert of Garden City, Randy Cypert of Buffalo, Missouri, Brandi Jones of Big Spring and Melissa Wiehl and husband, Ross of Coalville, England; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Denny Cypert and wife, Dawn, of Burnet, and Wayne Cypert and wife, Linda, of Garden City; four sisters, Delia Authur and husband Granvil of Gardendale, Sandi Snegireff of Scottsdale, Arizona, Sharon Ifera and husband, Ray, of Crane, and Frances Grisham and husband, Charlie, of Odessa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nita Cypert; his parents, J. T. Cypert and Jonnie Cypert; one brother, Calvin Cypert; and a granddaughter, Jenifer Darlene Cypert.
The family would like to thank the staff at Home Hospice for the wonderful care they gave James.
