James Garth "Jim" Strawn of Midland died Sunday, January 27, 2008, in the Hospice Unit at Midland Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at the St. Lukes Methodist Church at 10:00 am, Thursday, January 31, 2008, with Pastor Richard W. Edwards officiating. Graveside services will be at Trent Garden of Memories in Trent, Texas at 2:30 pm, following a luncheon served at the Methodist Fellowship Hall in Trent. The family will receive friends at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home, 3800 N Big Spring, on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 from 6:30 8:30 pm.Jim was born in Greenville, Texas on March 5, 1922, to Earl Britton and Thelma Strawn. At the age of 12, he and his parents moved to Trent, Texas, where he completed high school in 1939. Jim graduated from John Tarleton in 1942 and joined the U.S. Marine Corps. While on leave in 1944, Jim married Virginia Chloe McRee of Trent, and their son James Garth Strawn, Jr. was born on June 26, 1945. Both Virginia and Garth have preceded Jim in death. After his discharge from the Marine Corps, Jim enrolled in McMurray College and graduated in 1949.Jim went to work for Humble Oil and worked the West Texas area, including Seminole, Andrews, Crane and Monahans, and retired from Exxon in Midland in 1983. Jim was an avid golfer and was a member of Ranchland Hills Country Club for over 20 years. He married Betty Ambrose in Midland on March 16, 1995.Jim is survived by his wife, Betty; one son, John Mark Strawn and his wife Susan of Tyler; one daughter, Shelley Chloe Strawn and her husband Vic Bruce of Pine, Colorado; and one daughter-in-law, Dana Strawn of Lubbock. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Brian Strawn of Houston and Kimberley Strawn of Frisco; Christi Nielsen and Lance Raglin of Pine, Colorado; and Britton, Collin and Shea Strawn of Tyler.
