James \Jimmy\ Phillips, 69, of Midland passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2017 surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 11:00 am at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel in Midland.Jimmy was born on June 29, 1948 to Mary Alice and James A. Phillips in Wilmington, NC. Jimmy was career Military and served two tours in Vietnam after retirement, he then served as Midland's Veteran Services Officer. But his true calling might have been entertainment. He discovered music early and was spinning records almost before he could walk. He later shared with other music lovers hosting the Blues Nest on KOCV. He was a walking encyclopedia of music, facts and trivia. His iTunes playlist contained songs from over 8,000 albums. His love of fast and classic cars ran a close second and he was an avid NASCAR fan. He had an infectious laugh and loved spinning yarns and telling jokes. He was, in fact, quite the entertainer.He is survived by his wife, Sherry Phillips; sister Deborah Downs; sons, Jonathan Phillips; Anthony \Bryan\ Phillips; James \Alex\ Phillips III (Kim); and stepson, Christopher Cooper (Susan); grandchildren, Alexa, James IV, Austin, Jonathan Jr., Justin, Joseph and Jacob Phillips; canine companion, Katya, who stayed devotedly by his side.He is preceded in death by his parents.In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be donated to Hospice Midland; and any local SPCA.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
