Jacquelyn (Cook) Stacey

Jacquelyn (Cook) Stacey, 76, of Big Spring, affectionately known as Jackie—and “JiJi” to her grandbabies—passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at her home in Jacksboro, surrounded by her family.

She was born April 27, 1949, in Big Spring, Texas. She graduated from Big Spring High School and later earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Texas Tech University. She also held a lifetime teaching certificate. A strong advocate for child abuse intervention education, she was dedicated to family outreach programs that provided home-based training in parenting and coping skills. She later retired from American Airlines as a flight attendant, a career she truly loved, and cherished the opportunity it gave her to travel the world.

She shared an unbreakable and lifelong bond with her sister, Suzanne. Whenever the two of them were together, laughter was sure to follow—there was simply never a dull moment. Their playful rivalry and friendly competition were a joy for everyone around them to witness, a reminder of the special closeness only sisters can share. Despite the teasing and the spirited banter, their love for one another always shined the brightest. They spoke nearly every day, offering each other support, humor, and companionship. They treasured their road trips together, turning simple drives into memorable adventures. Their sisterhood was one of her greatest joys and a source of comfort and strength throughout her life.

Her greatest pride and joy was her son, Banning. Adopted at birth, he was the blessing she had long prayed for, and she poured her whole heart into raising him into the man he is today. Her love for him was immeasurable—felt in every word she spoke about him and seen in the way her face lit up the moment he walked into the room. She cherished every conversation they shared, whether it was a long, meaningful talk or a quick chat in passing. To her, every moment with Banning was a gift, and she held those memories close to her heart.

She found joy in the simple pleasures of life—quiet afternoons spent watching her favorite game shows and documentaries, and evenings reserved for the shows she loved most. Counting Cars with Danny and Expedition Unknown with Josh Gates were long-time favorites, and Josh Gates even inspired her signature “Indiana Jones–style” hat, which she wore with pride and a sense of adventure. She loved keeping her mind active, whether she was piecing together a new puzzle or playing card games like Solitaire, Gin Rummy, and Bridge—traditions lovingly passed down from her mother, Jean. But above all, her greatest happiness came from time spent with her grandchildren. She always had an activity planned, a treat prepared, or a small surprise tucked away. Every visit was an adventure, every moment thoughtful and meaningful. She made ordinary days feel special, and created memories her family will cherish forever.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert J. (“Jack”) Cook and Jean Jackson Cook; her grandparents, Charles Jackson and Lavenia Maude Ross Jackson; and her aunt, Margaret Battle.

She is survived by her sister, Suzanne Mahon; her son, Banning Sweatland, and his wife, Jaimie Sweatland; and her niece, Kelley Smith and her husband, Russell, along with their children, Conner and Abby. She is also survived by her nephew, Ross Conner, and his wife, Stacey, and their children, Jack, Trent, Raina, Ellie, Jonah, and Hank.

Her grandchildren include Caden Knox Sweatland and Ethan Curtis Sweatland, and Shelby Lynn Sweatland. She is also survived by one great-grandson, Baylor Knox Sweatland.

In addition, she leaves behind numerous loving cousins who held a special place in her heart and with whom she shared many precious memories.

Pallbearers will be Banning Sweatland, Caden Sweatland, Ethan Sweatland, Ross Conner, Russell Smith, and Brian Campbell.

The family would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to Avir at Keeneland in Weatherford and Beyond Faith Hospice in Graham for the exceptional care, kindness, and support they provided during Jackie’s final months. Their compassion, professionalism, and unwavering dedication brought peace and comfort not only to Jackie, but to our entire family. From the gentle attention they showed each day to the emotional support they offered during difficult moments, their presence made an immeasurable difference. We are deeply grateful for the dignity, respect, and genuine love they showed throughout her journey.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, December 15, 2025, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Big Spring, with David Smith of Birdwell Lane Church of Christ, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 14, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for visitation at the funeral home.
