Jackie Richard Cooper, 66, of Midland passed away on Monday, April 25, 2016. A viewing will be at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home from 5:00pm-9:00pm on Friday, April 29, 2016. A gathering will be held at 6:00pm at Shaunne White’s home on Saturday, April 30, 2016.Jackie was born on November 18, 1949 in Shirtz, Texas to Jessie Wright and Sonny Cooper. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all his friends and family.Jackie will never know the depth of admiration and love that his many brothers and sisters hold for him. To them, he was a great protector and caregiver. At a very young age, he knew all about adult burdens and responsibilities, his were great as evidenced by old photos–always a baby on his hip and holding the hand of another. Each one of us could speak about all the wonderful things he did for us. I guess you could say he was our hero. We love him so, and we will miss him forever.Jackie was a hard worker throughout his life. He worked at a number of trades and took pride in his reputation as a man who could be counted on for quality work. Even after his diagnosis, it was all we could do to get him to stay home and rest in between treatments, and still some days, despite our efforts, he would go along \to help.”Jackie was the father to 4 daughters and 1 son. Over the years we've experienced times of closeness and feel grateful for the special closeness over the last few months. He was happy and content when surrounded by his children, grandchildren and siblings. He looked forward to their visits and even treatment appointments where he would have time to sit with one or two of them and visit. He would say he didn’t want everybody making a fuss over him. After all those years taking care of his family, he still didn’t know how blessed each of us were to have the chance to take care of him.He is survived by his children, Shaunne White and husband Shannon, Sherene Starr and husband Buck, Lee’Ayn Lesley and husband Aaron, Christi Gilliam and husband Jaime, and Cody Cooper and girlfriend Krystal Price; siblings, Alice Ann Cooper, David Alan Cooper, Marsha Lynne Cooper, Patricia Elain “Patty” Cooper, Stephen Ray Cooper, William James “Jimmy” Cooper, Charles Edwin “Charlie” Cooper, Joanne Elizabeth Looklar, and Kelly Jean Cox; 11 awesome grandchildren; 2 amazing great-grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Karla Denise Cooper, and sister, Alice Ann Cooper. The family would like to express their gratitude towards the wonderful staff at Texas Oncology for always treating him like family. Thank you Dr. Manget and staff, Dr. Akins and staff, Nurse Julie, Nurse Roberta, and Glen and Brian in radiology. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Texas Oncology or the American Cancer Society.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
