Jack Dillard Hightower, 79, of Midland, died on Saturday, November 6, 2010, at the Hospice Inpatient Unit at Midland Memorial Hospital. Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church, with Rev. Gene Hillburn, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM on Monday, November 8, 2010 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. He was born on January 17, 1931, in Howard County, Texas, to Barney Bynum and Edna Hightower. Jack worked in the grocery business with his Uncle Paul Brooks in Midland County until the Korean War when he joined the Navy, in 1952 serving aboard the U.S.S. Helena. Upon his return he began working towards his undergraduate degree and eventually started teaching in San Angelo, TX. He first married JoAnna Harris, having four children, Rita Kay, Bryce, Steven, and Blake Hightower. He then married Lynn Ann Sipe having one child, Christopher Hightower. After her passing married Billie Mabee. He was a Principal of Elementary Schools in Midland for 30 years (including: Henderson, Jane Long, Travis, Anson Jones, Burnett, and South. Jack also served as interim principal of Greenwood Elementary, was employed as teacher appraiser for an independent firm, was elected to the MISD Board of Trustees for two terms where he served for 6 years as a member, Vice President, and President.He is survived by his wife Billie Mabee Hightower of Midland; four sons, Bryce Hightower of Midland, TX, Steven Hightower of Alto, NM, Blake Hightower of Monahans, TX and Christopher Hightower of Midland, TX, a daughter Rita Kay Hightower from Midland; ten grandchildren, five great- grandchildren, His sisters Neil Dot Robbins and Mary Jo Coffield of Rockdale, TX.
