J.N. “Bob” Cotton, a young 93, died at his home in Midland, TX on May 17, 2022 with his family at his side. Bob was born to Andrew Madison Cotton and Iva Reeves Cotton in McClain County, Oklahoma on March 27, 1929. He was one of nine children and is survived by four siblings, the oldest of which turned 100 years young in April. Bob married the love of his life, Anna Margaret Brown, in 1950, and they had two children, Cheryl and Keith. Bob took early retirement from Texaco after over 40 years of service to care for Anna when she was diagnosed with colon cancer until she left her family in 1991.
In 1993, Bob married Virginia Shankle whom he had met through Hospice Grief meetings. Bob and Virginia spent many years together traveling and enjoying each other’s company. Bob loved to cook and care for others, was a true outdoorsman and diehard Oklahoma University Sooners fan. He golfed, hunted and fished, and had great skills at working the land.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Iva Cotton; wife, Anna Cotton; son, Keith Evan Cotton; brothers, Lester Cotton and Hobart Cotton; and sisters, Daisy Waggoner and Hazel Leasure.
Bob is survived by his spouse, Virginia, as well as his devoted family Cheryl Kuzmich of Fort Worth and Sonya Martin of Greenwood. Bob had five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren who were the light of his life: Katrina Kuzmich and husband Chris Sanchez of Denver, CO; Libby Otterness and husband Dave Otterness of Wadsworth, IL; Sarah Schneider, husband Matthew Schneider, children Matthias Conrad, Story Ann and Corbyn Brown of Fort Worth, TX; Kolton Cotton and wife Marika Cotton of Lubbock, TX; and Kade Cotton of Greenwood, TX.
Bob’s wishes were to have no services but to be cremated and placed with his wife Anna, in Montague County, Texas. Our family would like to thank the many doctors and caregivers who have provided great care and help the last few years, along with Kindred Hospice of Midland. The compassion and care provided by all has been outstanding.
Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland. Online condolences may be made at www.npwelch.com.
