Howard L. Shivers, Sr., 78, of Big Spring , died on Thursday, October 5, 2006, in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held, Monday, October 9, 2006 at 2:00 PM at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Chaplain Walter McCall, of Odessey Hospice officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park Big Spring. The family will recieve friends from 3 to 4 P.M., Sunday at the funeral home.Howard was born on May 11, 1928, in Dale, Oklahoma and married Carolyn Sutton in February of 1958 in Oklahoma City, Ok. and she preceded him in death Jan. 26, 1984. He later married Inez Crittenden Grant in August of 1989 in Big Spring, Texas. Mr. Shivers came to Big Spring in 1960 and worked for the City of Big spring for 26 years as a heavy equipment operator before retiring. Howard was most known for making bicycles for the grandkids and also the neighborhood kids throughout the years and also for making many clocks.He was a member of Church of Christ and a member of the Eagles Lodge. Survivors include his wife, Inez Shivers of Big Spring, Texas; two sons, Howard Shivers, Jr. and wife Janie, of Big Spring and David Shivers of New York; four step daughters, Celia Williams and husband Johnie and Linda Davidson all of Big Spring, Nancy Richardson of San Antonio, Texas, and Sue Carey and husband Chuck of Dallas ; two step sons and spouses, Rickey E. and Cindy Sutton of Abilene and David T. and Debbie Sutton of Enterprize, Alabama; eighteen grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and two sisters, Wilma Lee Poole and Tito Redding both of Shawnee, Oklahoma.Mr. Shivers was preceded in death by his parents Riley and Jewell Shivers.The family suggests memorials be made to the American Heart Association, 3205 W.
