November 8, 1962 – March 2, 2017Gilbert Clyde Carter passed away unexpectedly on March 2, 2017.He was born to Douglas Marion Carter and Mary Francis Knowles Carter on November 8, 1962, in El Paso, Texas. Gilbert was the loving husband of Kim, proud father of four children, and the much-loved Rah-Rah of two grandbabies.Captain Carter retired from the Midland Fire Department in 2007 after 26 years of service. He and Kim owned and operated G&K Trucking, where they built up lasting relationships with their amazing customers. Gilbert was an avid team roper, dog trialer, and all around good ol’ cowboy. He was a son, brother, husband, father, Rah-Rah, friend, and mentor.Gilbert leaves behind his beloved wife, Kim; son, Kevin; daughter, Sarah and her fiancé Jarred; son, Derek and his wife Sadie; daughter, Amanda and her husband Alec; father, Doug; mother of his children, Linda; brother Brian and his wife Diana; two sweet grandbabies, Hudson and Bodie; and nephew and niece, Austin and Miranda. His dear mother, Mary, preceded him in death. Gilbert will be greatly missed by so many friends from the various paths he walked in life, including roping, the fire department, sheepdog trials, and trucking. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.A life celebration will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 3:00 pm at the West Texas Cowboy Church at 12144 E. Highway 158 in Gardendale.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Midland Firefighters Association, MDA’s Fill The Boot, or to the Region 2 Texas High School Rodeo Association.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
