He was born September 19, 1952 in Rio Verde, San Luis Potosí, Mexico and married Janie Martinez on June 4, 1977 in Garden City, TX.
In 1967, Genaro decided to venture and came to the United States at the age of 15. At this age, his beginnings in the agricultural life started as a farm hand, working for Uncle Troy Hoch. Within the month, he was brought to Garden City, where he dedicated the next 53 years of his life working for Michael Hoch, who also became a lifelong and dear friend. In 1977, he met the love of his life, Janie, who served as a teacher’s aide for nightly English languages classes. It wasn’t long when they decided to get married and share their lives together.
They resided on a cotton farm, outside of Garden City, where their 5 children grew up, as well as attended school. He was a proud supporter of his children’ involvement in school and extracurricular activities. As his children grew up and made lives of their own, his happiness flourished even more with the births of his grandchildren. Genaro traveled many miles and wore many colors in support of the schools and organizations represented by his grandchildren.
Genaro’s hobbies included fishing, hunting, sports, however, his love for music outshined them all. For years, he serenaded the communities of Garden City and St. Lawrence during special holidays, including birthdays, Mothers ’day and Christmas.
Genaro never met a stranger anywhere he went. He always extended a helping hand to all those in need. His love and generosity for everyone will deeply be missed.
