Broughton, G. C., Jr., 78, of Big Spring, long time area Farmer and Businessman, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2001, in a Lubbock hospital after complications from heart bypass surgery. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Friday, February 9, 2001, at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Kenneth Patrick, Chaplain of Baptist Memorial Center of San Angelo, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. Mr. Broughton was born to a pioneering Howard County family on August 30, 1922. He owned and operated farms in Howard, Martin, Glasscock, Gaines, Hale, Floyd and Lamb Counties of Texas. He also owned and operated Broughton Implement for over 25 years as well as numerous Cotton Gins. He was active in the Oil and Gas industry throughtout the West Texas area. G. C. Broughton, Jr. served on many Board of Directors including the Security State Bank, The Salvation Army, Howard County Tax Appraisal District, the Ruidoso Jockey Club and the Advisory Board of Methodist Hospital in Lubbock. He was a Rotarian and a member of First Baptist Church in Big Spring. Survivors include his wife, Jean Broughton of Big Spring; two step-sons, Casey Wilder of Houston and Scott Wilder and wife, Alicia of Dallas; granddaughter, Kyla Wilder of Houston; a brother and his wife, Robert and Alpha Broughton of Angleton; two sisters-in-law, Sue Broughton of Big Spring and Kae Wise of Dallas and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover Cleveland Broughton and Virgie M. Broughton, a brother, Johnny Ray Broughton, a sister, Dorothy Taylor and a rother-in-law, Warren Wise. Pallbearers will be Lonnie Newton, Marion Newton, Gibson Feagin, Clay Ingram, John Wilson, Lee Wescott, Bill Pollard and Bob Brock. Honorary pallbearers will be Sonny Shroyer, Fred Eckert, Jerry Worthy, Ralph McLaughlin, O. F. Priest, John Currie, Kent Morgan, Murray Murphy, Tim Cross, Rich Anderson and R. H. Weaver.
