Daniel Ferguson, 50, of Midland, passed peacefully in his sleep from this life into his eternal life on the morning of June 14, 2021. He’s now walking the streets of gold and rejoicing with his Savior.
Daniel was born on December 21, 1970, in Odessa, Texas to Guinn and Barbara Ferguson. He attended Robert E. Lee High School and graduated in 1989. After obtaining his Associate’s Degree from Midland College, he began working for the United States Postal Service, while he continued to mow many yards around Midland through his mowing business. He continued both jobs until he was involved in a car accident in 1995, which left him with a brain injury causing him to be quadriplegic, and unable to speak.
Although his life forever changed, Daniel’s attitude remained steadfast throughout. Daniel’s physical abilities were limited, but his ministry was not. God used Daniel until the day he woke up in Heaven to touch a countless number of lives with his joyful attitude and big smile. No matter how bad your day was going, being around Daniel would always lift your spirit. He really could light up the room with his smile and laughter. Daniel was kind, witty, loyal, loving, and so much fun! He was an amazing brother, son, uncle, coach, and friend. Daniel loved to play and coach adults and children in soccer. He loved children and was a kindergarten aide. Daniel touched the life of every single person that he came in contact with, both before the wreck, and after.
Daniel is survived by his parents, Guinn and Barbara Ferguson of Midland; Sister, Janess Smith and her husband Randy of Little Rock, Arkansas, and their children Madeleine, Renner (wife Lacey), and Keller; Brother, Mark Ferguson (wife Christine) of Little Rock, Arkansas, and their daughters Mackenzie, Zoe, and Avery; adopted family, Keith and Marilyn Waldrop, Keilyn Waldrop, Amanda Arpe, and Brecken Arpe; and too many friends to count.
From the lines of a beautifully-written tribute. “Your smile and laughter lit up every single room you walked into. Your antics and jokes made us all laugh, even when we should have been being serious. You taught us that laughter really is the best medicine. But mostly you taught us all how to defy odds, push through, be strong, and that as long as we keep our faith, we can do anything with God by our side. God broke the mold when he made you. You are a star that shines so bright in everyone’s life, and I know you are looking down on us running and dancing down the streets of gold” – Amanda.
This loss has left a big hole in our hearts. Although we will miss Daniel every minute of every day, we take comfort in the fact that he is not in pain anymore, and in Heaven he is whole again, walking, running, and talking non-stop, making up for 25 years. The world is just a little less bright since he is gone. Daniel truly was one-of-a-kind. You just couldn’t know him without ending up a friend.
The family would like to express their gratitude towards Dr. McKenna, Dr. Staub, Dr. M. Patel, Dr. Ganta, and Dr. Case; without them Daniel could not have had the life he has had for the last 25 years. Jena, RuthAnn, Lorri, and Toby, without y’all, we couldn’t have done it. Thank you for your faithfulness. Also, a special thank you to the nurses, care techs, respiratory therapists, and administration at Midland Memorial Hospital. You all made being in the hospital easier.
Daniel has had so many special caregivers over the years, there’s no way we can name them all, but we would like to say a special thank you to his current best friends, who are not just caregivers but family: Vanessa, Misty, and Brisa. Without you girls, Daniel would not have enjoyed life near as much. You all gave him so much joy and laughter every day. You all were truly a gift from God for Daniel. We cannot express how much we love and appreciate you all for how you took care of him and the love you showed him.
