He was instrumental in getting an army surplus building moved from Midland to be used as the first church in the growing parish.
Eugene was also involved in many community activities. He was on the founding committee of The National Cotton Council, The Cotton Growers Association, The Soil Conservation Service, The Bollweevil Eradication Board, as well as the Glasscock County School Board and the 4-H Club. Eugene was especially proud of his work to get the Glasscock County Senior Citizens formed, and having their own building. Also, his contributions to build and run the Glasscock County Community Center in Garden City was one of his proudest achievements.
