Ernie was born on November 3, 1937 in Augusta, KS to James Iber Claude Webb and Fern Leona Winters. He grew up in Russell, KS and graduated from Russell High school in 1955. Ernie met Jeane in Russell while she was visiting relatives. They married June 7, 1957 in Midland and had the first of 3 children (Bryan). They moved to Denver while he was working as a draftsman, where they had their second child (Shawn), then moved back to Midland in 1962, where their third child (Darren) was born. Ernie was the son of an oilfield pumper and his first few jobs were also in the oilfield. Upon his return to Midland, he became a salesman for Western Specialty Advertising. He later opened his own specialty advertising business where he eventually became “Ernie Webb, The Idea Man”.
Ernie loved attending and participating in the Annual Terlingua International Championship Chili Cook-Offs in Terlingua, TX. He could often be found cooking ribs, brisket, sausage, and beans for local companies, charities, family and friends. Ernie loved pool parties on the weekends and hosting 4th of July “bashes” with food, games, fireworks and airplane “fly-bys” to celebrate the independence of The United States of America. He was a private pilot, owned his own Cessna 182 Skylane and was passionate about all things aviation. He loved WW2 history, especially the aircraft, and was a member and former wing leader of the then Confederate Air Force chapter in Midland.
Ernie is survived by his 3 children, son Bryan Webb and wife Tamara, daughter Shawn Ketchum and husband Danny, and son Darren Webb and wife Jodie, all of Midland, TX; grandchildren Tyler Webb and wife Vicky, of Midland, TX, Taylor Brignon and husband Andy (Charli Jo and Houston) of Katy, TX, Jarred Martin and wife Becky (Jack and Lane) of Midland, TX, Ryan Martin and wife Kara (McCarlie, Joslyn, and Jett) of Little Elm, TX, Kristen Keefer and wife Autumn of Fairview, TX, Logan Webb of Lubbock, TX, and Landen Webb of Midland, TX.
