Ernest E. Lillard, 69, of Big Spring, died on Wednesday, April 4, 2001, in a Lubbock hospital. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, April 9, 2001, at the First Assembly of God Church with Dr. Morris L. Sheats, pastor of Hillcrest Church of Dallas and Rev. R. T. Havener, pastor of First Assembly of God of Big Spring, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. He was born on August 28, 1931 in Ackerly, Texas and married Dolores Sheats on September 18, 1951 in Big Spring, Texas. Mr. Lillard was a lifetime resident of Howard County. He graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. He served as Director of Public Works in Big Spring from 1962-1970 and in Wichita Falls from 1970-1983 and was Administrative Assistant for Colorado River Municipal Water District in Big Spring from 1983-1986. He was a member of the First Assembly of God and served as a deacon in Big Spring and Wichita Falls. He was a member of the Texas Public Works Association, the Texas Municipal League, the Texas Society of Professional Engineers and Kiwanis International, where he was Kiwanian of the Year in Wichita Falls in 1971-1972. He was mentioned in Who's Who in the South and Southwest and had served with the Army Corps of Engineers in Korea. Survivors include his wife, Dolores Lillard of Big Spring; a daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Dr. Steve Morgan of Clearwater, Florida; his mother, Beulah Lillard of Ackerly; a sister, Audrey Schafer of El Paso; a brother, Travis Lillard of Midland; two grandchildren, Riley Morgan and Bailey Morgan both of Clearwater, Florida; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Sheats of Big Spring; two aunts, Lorene Cave and Imogene Hammond both of Ackerly and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, William Lillard. The family suggests memorials to: First Assembly of God Building Fund, P.O. Box 911, Big Spring, Texas 79721-0911. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
