Erin Elizabeth Green

In the very early morning of August 7, 2025, at her home in Midland, TX, Erin Elizabeth Green passed away and “slipped the bonds of earth to touch the face of God.” She was preceded in death by her father, Powell M. Hinson and her brother, James M. Hinson. She is survived by the light of her life, her loving son, John Maithland Green of Midland, TX and her devoted husband, William Chase Green of Midland, TX. Also surviving her is her dear mother, Mary Hinson, her brother, Samuel Hinson, her sister, Lisa Hinson and her niece and nephew, Mae Critendon and Powell Hinson, respectively. Also surviving her are her many loving and supportive “sisters” listed alphabetically – Cindy Brock, Ginger Caballero, Alma Gomez, Carolyn Hinson, Nancy Long, Anne Lucero, Vicky McWilliams, Mary Midgett, Abby Muncy, Marty New, Sherry Rose, Kathy Sy, and Sheryl Tanyer.

Born in Lubbock, TX on September 22, 1957, Erin grew up and lived her life in many places including Texas, Louisiana, Maryland, Vermont, California, North Carolina and on and on. She found time to graduate with a BS in Management Information Systems (Summa Cum Laude) – University of Houston and later a MS in Information Systems – University of Maryland-Baltimore. Her career’s work focused almost exclusively on computer programming as she became quite adept across many diverse platforms and computer languages, amassing an enviable set of skills. In fact, she moved from Vermont to California to marry her husband and within the first week of arriving in California, she took a position that would last for the remainder of her working life (well over 33 years)! After one year in California, her husband (Bill) took a position in Asheville, NC where their son John was born. As both Erin and Bill were native Texans, they quickly decided to relocate to Texas and eventually “landed” in Midland. During that time, Erin never missed work exemplifying all one could possibly expect in a telecommuter. In fact, the many enduring work relationships she developed during those years attest to her dedication and exemplary work ethic.

However, as gifted as she was in her career aspirations, she was equally gifted in pursuing her most passionate avocation which was running. And she did not just run but ran long and difficult distances. In fact, she was so dedicated that she ran in several marathons and, as difficult as it is, she qualified for the premier marathon in the world – BOSTON! She not only qualified but competed and ran her best marathon time ever! A plaque memorializing this great achievement sits in the family room aside her many other successes.

One interesting thing about Erin and what made her so very special was the simple fact that she was modest to a fault. She never bragged or put herself first and she always had a warm and genuine smile. She was a fantastic listener and combined that with tons of empathy.

In short, Erin’s Christian beliefs, her religious foundation and her strong and steadfast faith, all helped mightily in helping her face life’s pleasures and challenges with a “can do” and very positive attitude. She truly embodied the relentless pursuit of perfection in all things she did. She had a great sense of humor and didn’t possess a mean bone in her body. Above all else, Erin was a giver, a devoted mother, a wonderful wife and a great friend to many. She left this earth much too soon and will be sorely and forever missed by her family, friends and all who had the good fortune to know her sweet nature.

A memorial service will be held 12:00pm, Saturday, September 20, 2025 at the Branch at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home, 3800 N. Big Spring St. in Midland.  The family requests nice casual attire for the service.

One final note of thanks – to Hospice of Midland – they made her last few months as bearable as humanly possible and no amount of thanks or words written can come close to expressing how caring, sincere, helpful and keenly sensitive all persons at Hospice of Midland were during these last few months.
