Our beloved mother, Emily Sanchez Melendrez, left this earthly world to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, May 1, 2021. She fought a lengthy battle with Covid but her body did not have the strength it needed to win. We find peace in our hearts to know she and the love of her life, the late Ascension Melendrez, are together again. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 4, 2021 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Graveside services will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park.
Emily was born in San Saba, Texas on November 3, 1948. She grew up with her family and as the youngest of the siblings, she dedicated her life to caring for her parents, Faustino and Maria Sanchez. On May 19, 1973, Emily married the love of her life, Ascension “Cinch” Melendrez and they lived in Temple, TX for a short while. Later, they moved to Midland, Texas for Cinch’s work with Fina Oil Company. In 1977, they welcomed their first daughter, Christina Melendrez, and in 1980, Ermelinda “Lindie” Melendrez was born. Cinch’s work relocated the family to several different cities in Texas, but they ultimately landed in Big Spring, Texas in 1990. Emily cared for her family through all of the moves and relocating, with her focus on raising their daughters. Emily and Ascension were married 27 years, until the passing of Ascension on March 10, 2000. Emily was a confirmed, baptized Christian and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Big Spring, Texas.
Emily had a beautiful soul. She was always concerned with the well being of others, those she knew for years to others she may only have known for a minute. She would pray nightly for hours for all those she loved or knew needed prayers. She loved with all her heart. Emily loved the color yellow and she loved to dance. When songs that moved her were playing you better move out of the way because nothing was keeping her still. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, godmother, cousin and friend to many. She will be missed but will forever live the hearts of those whom knew her.
She leaves behind her daughters, Lindie and grandson Phoenix of Tyler, TX, Christina and partner Raymond of San Antonio, TX, sister Lillian of Irving, TX, two brothers, Domingo of Brownwood, TX and Phillip of Watsonville, CA. Many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
Emily is preceeded in death by her parents, Faustino and Maria, her beloved husband, Ascension “Cinch” and her siblings, Luis, Francis, Lupe and Bernardo.
We want to take this moment to remind others to mask up and practice good hand hygiene during these continued times of uncertainty. If attending the funeral, the family requests that all guests wear a mask to protect each other and ensure that this gathering to celebrate the life of Emily is safe for all who attend. We would like to encourage her family and friends to wear yellow in her honor.
