Elizabeth Ann Greaves, age 83, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away on June 26, 2022. Elizabeth was born on October 7,1938 in Dallas, Texas to Carl A. Sonnen and Emma Corinne Sonnen. Her childhood years were spent in Abilene and Brownsville where she was a graduate of Brownsville High School. After earning her degree in elementary education from Texas Woman’s University, Elizabeth moved to West Texas to teach school in Andrews where she met her husband, Byron H. Greaves. Byron & Elizabeth were married on July 14,1962. They began married life in Midland and ultimately made it their home in 1969 after several short moves for Byron’s work.
Elizabeth loved living in Midland. She was an extremely active and well known member of Christ Church Anglican. As an engaged member of many clubs, the Junior League of Midland, Investment Club, Study Club, Garden Club, Book Club, Sewing Club and Supper Club, Elizabeth enjoyed and cherished her friendships with fellow members.
Many families in Midland were lucky enough to receive her famous tea rings at Christmas time, a meal in times of need, or a word of encouragement at just the right time. Elizabeth is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 37 years, one infant daughter and her brother, James Cecil Sonnen. She was also predeceased by her sisters in law, Saundra Greaves and Charlene Barnes as well as brothers in law, Bill Barnes and Burl D. Greaves. She is survived by her son, Troy Hugh Greaves and wife Stephanie of Cypress; daughter Julie Sonnen Bell and husband Brad of Dallas; grandchildren, Tyler and Austin Greaves, Witt Chambers, and Bliss and Iris Bell; brothers Carl A. Sonnen and wife Janice, Robert R. Sonnen and wife Melissa, and Jon A. Sonnen and wife Arlene; brothers in law, Bill T. Greaves and wife Charlotte, Basil L. Greaves; as well as sister in law, Amaparo Sonnen; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00am on Friday, July 8, 2022 at Christ Church Anglican.
Family and close friends will meet prior at 9:00am at Resthaven for a graveside service.
