Elias Cantu, Sr., 69, of Stanton, died, Thursday, December 31, 2015 in a Midland hospital. Graveside funeral services will be 2:00 PM Monday, January 4, 2016, at the Evergreen Cemetery Chapel in Stanton. He was born May 16, 1946 in Georgetown, Texas and married Ofelia De La Rosa September 12, 1964 in Tarzan, Texas. Elias was a longtime resident of Martin County and had worked for the Martin County Road and Bridge Department for a number of years. He then worked for Caprock Electric for over 25 years before retiring. Elias was an avid hunter and bass fisherman. Survivors include his wife, Ofelia Cantu of Stanton; four children, Elias Cantu, Jr. and wife, Emma of Dyersburg, Tennessee, Melissa Cantu and Josie Cantu both of Stanton, and John Erik Cantu of Midland; two brothers, Estevan Cantu of Midland and Enrique Cantu of Stanton; one sister, Hortencia Perez of Lenorah; seven grandchildren, Charlie Brown, Joel Cantu, Jasmine Hinijosa, Justina Hinijosa, Brianna Marquez, Alejandro Cantu and Gisela Cantu; and six great-grandchildren, Ariel, Alexis, Adrain, Jeremiah, Juliana and Analis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Enrique and Tomasa Cantu; one son, Ruben Cantu; and a sister, Viviana Gonzales. Arrangements are under the direction of Gilbreath Funeral Home of Stanton.
