Edwin E. "Red" Dickson, Sr., 78, of Big Spring, died on Friday, March 19, 2010, in a local hospital. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Royce Clay and Scott Prather, officiating. He was born on July 13, 1931, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and married Marvelene Mundell Bradford on July 17, 2001 in Coahoma, Texas.Red came to Coahoma in 1941 from Fresno, California. He graduated from Coahoma High School in 1950 and then attended Abilene Christian College. He served in the United States Air Force for four years. He worked for Sinclair Oil and Gas Company and for Atlantic Richfield and had lived in Alaska for 10 years working on the Alaskan pipeline. When the pipeline was completed, Red was the one who turned the valve to start the flow of oil. He retired in 1985 and returned to Howard County in 1988. He enjoyed going to the Senior Citizen Center and especially enjoyed attending the dances.He was a member of 14th and Main Church of Christ.Survivors include his wife, Marvelene Dickson of Big Spring; one son, Edwin Dickson, Jr. and wife, Kim of San Angelo; one daughter, Sabrina Hammel and husband, Roger of San Antonio; one brother, Bill Dickson and wife, Dana of Coahoma; four grandchildren, R. J. Eckard, Shawna Oper, Nicole Dickson and Andy Dickson; two great grandchildren; four step-children, Michael Mundell of Temple, Tresa Spencer of Kingsland, Steve Mundell of Big Spring and Toni Mundell of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews including, Vivian Glickman and Deidrei Knight both of Big Spring.He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Bess Spears Dickson; one brother, Charles Dickson, Jr.; one sister, Alice Joann Dickson; and a granddaughter, Brandie Garten.The family suggests memorials be made to the American Heart Association, P. O. Box 841125, Dallas, Texas 75284-1122 or to Lubbock Children's Home, P. O.
