Edward Henry Shaw II

February 22, 1928 - September 28, 2024

Henry Shaw, lovingly known as “Da”, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, September 28th at the age of 96.

He was a man of great strength in both soul and heart.  He loved his family dearly, which included his dogs, cats, goats, horses and even a few turtles.

Growing up in Midland, attending Texas A&M, becoming a landman, playing polo, raising and racing horses, dancing, singing in musicals, playing golf, growing a garden known “as where the green things grow”, were all part of his rich and full life.

He was especially proud to serve our country, joining the Navy in World War II.

His great love and great laugh will be missed by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Lone Star Sanctuary for Animals, or charity of your choice.

The family would like to give special thanks to the Visiting Angels and Home Hospice for their kindness and care.

The Shaw family will have a private graveside service. Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland. Online condolences can be made at www.npwelch.com.

When I hear the phrase “they don’t make them like they used to” I often think of Henry. He was rugged yet refined, tough yet gentle, firm yet forgiving, and principled yet patient. Whenever I was with him he always had a twinkle in his eye and a great story to tell. The only thing that he loved more than a great time was his family. He did so much for them, especially his granddaughter, who he instilled a love for life of all kinds and the value of hard work. I am blessed to be a part of his family through her and was able to spend many memories with him that I will cherish dearly. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
