Edward "Ed" Bean, 73, of Midland, passed away on Tuesday, March 23, 2004, unexpectedly at his home. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, March 29, 2004 at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Trinity in Midland with the Rev. Dr. Mark L. Canaday, officiating and Skip Hedgepeth, Chaplain of Home Hospice assisting. Inurnment will follow at the Columbarium of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Trinity in Midland. A reception will be held in the parish hall of the church. Edward was born October 4, 1930 in Lubbock, TX to Robert Hunt Bean and Clara Louise Border Bean. He was raised and educated in Lubbock and graduated with a degree in Geology from Texas Tech University. He served in the Air Force in Japan during the Korean conflict. On February 16, 1957 he married Martha Lou Greenlee. They moved to Katy, Texas where Ed worked for Empire Geophysical. Later they were transferred to Midland where he worked for Teledyne Geophysical. Later he was employed by ARCO, Union of Texas and Mobile Oil Company.Edward was a very devoted husband, father and friend. He enjoyed serving his church as Sunday School Teacher, Choir member, EYC sponsor, Lay reader, Lay visitor, and on the vestry as Junior Warden. Ed enjoyed camping with his wife, particularly in Colorado, playing golf with his buddies Ron Adams and Bud Harrison. He served on the Board of Meals on Wheels for two years, was president of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, was Interium Director for Habitat for Humanity and has worked faithfully on the construction crew for many years, and was a member of the Midland Astronomy Club. Ed was deeply devoted to Men's Community Bible Study where he enjoyed the fellowship and the study of God's word.He is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Martha; one daughter Melida Bean Voda and her husband Dr. Jon Voda and their children, Kristin and Justin; one son, Robert Ross Bean and his wife Sue Bean of North Adams, MA; one sister-in-law, Marie Bean of Orlando, FL and several nieces and nephews and his cousins, Helen Johsen, Clara English, Wadene Lampe of Beaumont, TX. Edward was preceded in death by his parents; Robert and Clara Bean and his brother George Bean of Orlando, Florida. Edward's family wish to express their thanks to all his many friends for their friendship and support, especially Joan Davis, Sherri Green and Community Bible Study Leaders.
