Edgar Herm, 83, of Ackerly, died on Wednesday, March 16, 2005, in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, March 18, 2005 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel, with Rev. Delmer Thompson, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Ackerly, officiating. Military graveside rites will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the funeral home.Mr. Herm was born on April 9, 1921, in Burlington, Texas and married Oma Richburg on December 10, 1940 in Loraine, Texas.He lived in Loraine and farmed there after marrying, then came to Ackerly in 1949 where they farmed until they retired. Edgar loved to farm and work with his hands. He was good at building and inventing things. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Ackerly.Mr. Herm was a veteran of the United States Army where he served during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was wounded in Okinawa and received the purple heart.Survivors include his wife, Oma Herm of Ackerly; one daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Mike Hall of Stanton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Eddy and Don Nell Herm of Ackerly, and Steve and Teresa Herm of Stanton; two sisters, Mildred Little of Houston, and Martha Martzoff of Sanford, North Carolina; three brothers, James Herm of Colorado City, Harold Herm of Austin, and W. C. Herm of Deland, Florida; eight grandchildren, Melinda Doege of Crane, Ronnie Wallace of Seminole, Kenneth Wallace of Grapevine, Michelle Zant of Ackerly, Deanna Belew of Big Spring, Eric Herm of Big Spring, Laura Jordan of Lubbock, and Kyle Herm of Houston; and twelve great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
