Eddie Brunson, 71, of Midland, Texas passed away on March 17, 2025.

Eddie was born on June 20, 1953 in Manning, South Carolina to Leah Brunson and Simon Holliday. He grew up in the Richmond Heights neighborhood in Miami, Florida where he attended school and graduated from Florida International University and later received a master’s degree from the University of Miami. After graduating from FIU, he began working for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) as part of the team of “hurricane hunters.” He rode out many hurricanes while operating the computer systems on the plane and was able to travel to many parts of the world during weather-related research missions.

After leaving NOAA, he relocated to Chicago, Illinois where he married the love of his life, Paula Sanford, on September 1, 1984, and for the next 41 years they made a life together. Their first son, Henry, was born in Illinois in 1989, and their second son, Charles, was born in 1993 in North Carolina. From there they moved to Denton, Texas where the boys grew up. They moved to Midland in 2008 where Eddie taught math and computer science at Midland High School for several years. After that he worked various jobs until his retirement in 2020. Eddie liked to tinker with computers, building them and taking them apart to build new ones. He also enjoyed shooting as a hobby. During their retirement, Eddie and Paula enjoyed camping in their camp trailer and traveling. Mostly, he loved spending time with his family—his two boys and daughter-in-law, his grandchildren, and his family in Miami.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Paula; children Henry Brunson (Jasmine), and Charles Brunson; his grandchildren Jaxen Newell and Aurora Jayde; one brother Paul Cain (Lisa); nieces and nephews, cousins and aunts; and his life-long friend Pat Tarver.

Eddie is preceded in death by his mother, Leah Brunson Cain, his stepfather Abraham Cain, and his father Simon Holliday; brothers Henry Cain and Gunsie Brunson.

Arrangements for a memorial service will be announced at a later time.

Hello Family, I am Dorothy, Ed's oldest cousin. I wish to convey my deepest condolences for your loss.

I never met Eddie in person. I did however meet him through shared memories and stories from my wife Taylor Fisk. I heard he was a very nice, cool, precise, funny guy. I was told of his humor, wit and niceness. I wish I could have met him since being married into this family. I really looked forward to it. However, I don't see this as a missed opportunity, I see it as a delay. We will meet one day uncle Eddie. Its just gonna be a bit longer. My heart goes out to his loved ones. I may not have met you all, but I love you all.

My condolences to the best husband, father and grandfather I have ever met. He will definitely be missed. I never saw Eddie without a smile on his face. Thank you for being an excellent role model.

my deepest condolences to my family closest to eddie, he was such a wonderful, warm, loving, and smart person. i remember him visiting me and my dad when i was younger. he got onto me for sucking my thumb. we shared many laughs. i saw him back in december, we had lunch. he was very funny and cheered me up when i was going through a lot. your warmth in this world won't be forgotten. rest in peace ❤️
