Earl “Dodi” Newell

Our Dad, Earl Newell also known as Dodi, 93, of Big Spring passed away on Friday, December 30, 2022 in Amarillo, Texas.  The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel.  Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm following the visitation at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel.  Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.

He was born December 2, 1929 in Amarillo, Texas to Margaret and Earl Newell Sr.  Earl moved his family to Big Spring, Tx in January of 1970.  They attended First Baptist Church in Big Spring where he was a Deacon.  He became a self-employed owner of Earl Newell Oil Company.  He owned and operated the Shamrock service stations in Big Spring and Snyder Texas.  When Earl retired in his 70’s, he finally got to realize his dream and played golf any time he wanted.  He played 3 times a week and loved life.  In his 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s, more times than not, he shot his age or below.  He also had at least 2 hole in ones.  Dodi was loved by his family and his friends.  He is already missed by all of us.

Earl is survived by his children.  One daughter, Marna Moon of Amarillo, Texas, two sons, Rodney Newell and wife, Dana of Waco, Texas and Kerry Newell and wife, Donna of Cotopaxi, Colorado, seven grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Anita Newell and his parents, Earl Newell Sr., and Margaret Hastings Newell, a son-in-law, Ronnie Moon and a granddaughter, Rhonda.
