Dwight Franklin Fleming, 100, of Midland, TX, passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2021 surrounded by his family. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 from 6:00PM-8:00PM at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at 2:00PM at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel with burial to follow at Resthaven Cemetery.
Dwight was born on December 25, 1920 in Frazeysburg, Ohio to Thomas and Rhonda Fleming, the 3rd of 12 siblings. In 1940 he graduated from Nashport High School, then enlisted in the U.S. Air Corps on October 23, 1940. He started out as a mechanic and later became a pilot and flew B-175 and B-29’s in WWII. After the war ended, he was discharged in 1945 as a 1st Lieutenant. He came to Midland in 1946 to be a flight instructor for veterans under the GI bill with the West Texas Flying Service. He met and married his first wife, Marrie Anne Hayes in Barstow, Texas in 1945. They had 2 children.
Dwight was a company pilot for Rotary Engineering Co. for several years, flying all over the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. He later worked for Exploration Services, a mud logging company. Dwight then moved on to work for the United States Postal Service.
Later in life, Dwight married Betty Fleming and retired from the United States Postal Service in 1981. He continued to work various jobs and pursued his passion of hunting and fishing.
Dwight was preceded in death by his son, Jerry Fleming. He is survived by his wife Betty, his daughter Jean Britt, and his grandchildren, Thomas Fleming and his wife Charlotte of North Carolina, Jamie Helton of Maumelle, Arkansas, Tiffany Yagar of Maumelle, Arkansas, and Jessica Roberts of Tolar, Texas. Great Grandchildren include Brittany Cooper, Dylan Helton, Bella
Darrell, Abby Yagar, Jackson Yagar, Jace Yagar, Bree Roberts, and Austin Roberts.
