Dorothy Roderick Strickland died peacefully in her home at the age of 90 surrounded by family on December 27, 2022. She was born on April 2, 1932 in Midland, Texas to Dorothy Roderick and Eugene Roderick and was the only older sister to three younger brothers. Dorothy attended Midland High School and graduated in 1949. She was a majorette during high school.
She married Claude Delton Strickland of Midland, Texas in 1950 after meeting him at a roller-skating rink. Dorothy and Delton had two daughters, Delta Martin and Donna Smith. Dorothy worked for First National Bank and Shell Pipeline for many years before retiring. She was an active member of her church and always fiercely loved the Lord. Dorothy was the matriarch of her family; she graciously hosted countless holiday and birthday dinners at her home. Dorothy loved dancing and taking her grandchildren out to eat.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, and her husband. Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at Wilshire Park Baptist Church at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, January 2, 2023. Pastor Glen Pipes of Wilshire Park Baptist Church will lead the service. The interment will take place at Resthaven Memorial Park and will follow the service. Pallbearers will be her nephews and grandsons.
