Dorothy Mae Johnson, 98 years of age, Salutatorian of the Big Spring High School class of 1936, has entered the Kingdom of Heaven to be with God, her husband, C. E. \Perry\ Johnson, Jr., family and friends.Dorothy was born October 16, 1917 in Hugo, Oklahoma, the daughter of William Walter and Molly Mae Coleman. The family moved to Big Spring in 1924 as a T & P Railroad family, where the four sisters and a brother were reared, educated and were Methodists.Dorothy and Perry were married July 3, 1937. They reared their two sons and were active in sports, community and the First United Methodist Church. Dorothy was a housewife as well as a career woman, primarily a secretary and assistant to the late Lee Porter in his work with Howard County as County Clerk, County Auditor and more recently County Judge. She was recognized as an excellent legal secretary by the legal community.She was preceded in death by her husband, C. E. \Perry\ Johnson, Jr.; her parents, William Walter and Molly Mae Coleman; three sisters, Wavie Ola White, Althea Lee Trupp and Frances June Coleman; one brother, Billy Charles \Bud\ Coleman; and one niece.Dorothy is survived by her sons, Charles Lane and Barbara Johnson of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Kenneth Craig and Cathy Johnson of Mineral Wells; five grandchildren, Charles Craig Johnson, Jill Ann Schmitz, Lori Lynn Johnson, Kenneth Craig Johnson and Wendi Lea Johnson; four great-grandchildren, Angela Marissa Johnson, Reyna Lynn Johnson, Sarah Brett Johnson and Lauren Sharifian; a great-great-granddaughter, Lana Peterson; and nieces and nephews, Barbara Stooksberry, Janet Bettis, Karen Kay Finnerty, Bob Coleman and Bill Coleman; and a grand-niece, Lisa Finnerty.The family suggests gifts to the First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 1229, Big Spring, Texas 79721 or to a charity of choice.The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, September 22, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
