Our mother, Dorothy Horsley, passed from this life on January 17, 2019 into the arms of our Heavenly Father, in whom her faith was secure, and we REJOICE!Dorothy Jean Troesch was born in Decatur, Illinois on July 9, 1926 to John and Fern Belle Troesch. She was the 7th of seven children. She graduated from high school there, and with the financial support of a kind benefactor, graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and a Specialization in Speech Therapy. Later she received her master’s degree from the University of Evansville, Indiana. While at Eastern, a last minute blind date would change her life forever. She met and fell in love with John Horsley. Following his graduation, they married, and it was a union that lasted until his death parted them 33 years later. On Thursday, they were reunited. Together they raised four daughters.Mom taught physical education in several cities, Evansville, Indiana, Oklahoma, City, Oklahoma and finally Midland. Before retiring in 1986, she was the P.E. teacher and 7th Grade Girls’ Coach at Goddard Jr. High School. Her teaching career spanned 35 years and she would always say how she loved it!For five summers, following Dad’s death, Mom taught English as a Second Language in China and then she began to travel. From Switzerland to Australia, the Canadian glaciers to the islands of Galapagos, her many trips gave her tremendous pleasure in her retirement. She would marvel over the sights she saw and how great God was in all of it! No doubt she is marveling now!Dorothy Jean Horsley is survived by her daughters and their families: Carol Massie and her sons: Keith Massie, wife, Lydia (Luke and Grace); Jason Massie, wife, Alyssa (Mariah and Emma); Jeff Massie, wife, Emily (Cameron, Sydney, Trent and Traiger); Diane Richey and husband Rick; the children of her late daughter, Barbara Haralson; sons, John Haralson; Patrick Haralson, wife, Jesse (Anna, Dorothy and Jack), Matthew Haralson, wife, Kelsi (March baby); and daughter, Rachel Lopez, husband, Angel (Ayden, Mia, Dominick and Leonel); Kathy McCown and husband Jeff, daughter, Megan and son, Kade. Also preceding her in death, infant grandson, James Roy Haralson and son-in-law, Tommy Haralson.God blessed our daily lives with her presence, and she will live on in each of us until we’re together again! We would like to express our heart-felt thanks to Maria Gamez and Veronica Bordayo for the loving care they gave to our mother, and to our family.A Celebration of Life is planned for 2:00 P.M.
