Dorothy Elizabeth Gregg Henderson was born April 18, 1925, to William Lewis and Cressie Magdalene Gregg in Carbon, Texas. She went home to the Lord on July 19, 2020. Dorothy graduated from Stanton High School in Stanton, Texas, and briefly attended business school in Abilene, Texas. She then completed eighteen months of nursing training at Hendricks Memorial Hospital in Abilene, Texas, before meeting Clayton Henderson, the love of her life, in 1946. They married about three months later on December 7, 1946, in Midland, Texas.Dorothy was active in the Garden City and Big Lake churches of Christ. She liked working in the garden, sewing and quilting, playing cards and doing puzzles. She and Clayton enjoyed traveling in their RV and going fishing, but she loved being with her family most. She possessed the beautiful gift of genuine hospitality, and rarely a day went by that someone didn't stop by for coffee and a slice of homemade pie. Dorothy loved children, and they loved her back. She always welcomed visits from her extended family, and nieces and nephews often spent a week of two at the farm during their summer break. Dorothy and Clayton celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on December 7, 2011, a few short weeks before he preceded her in death on January 22, 2012.Dorothy is survived by her brother Hu Gregg and wife Nancy of Burkburnett: three children and their spouses Greg and Dayna Henderson of Merkel, Texas: Mark and Mary Henderson of Big Lake, Texas: and Craig and Patti Grote of Mason, Texas: Six grandchildren: eight great-grandchildren.The family is forever grateful for the compassionate and excellent care Dorothy received from Dr. Joseph Sudolcan and the staff of the Reagan County Care Center in Big Lake and the team from Hospice of San Angelo.
