Doris Whirley McMorries, 83, of Tarzan, passed away on February 10, 2011 at her residence. Funeral services have been scheduled for 1:30 pm on Monday, February 14, 2011 at First Baptist Church in Stanton with Rev. Leandro Gonzales of First Baptist Church of Tarzan officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Stanton. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, February 13, 2011, from 3:00 pm until 4:00 pm.She was born to Paul and Jewell Lunsford Whirley on November 16, 1927 in Mitchell County, Texas and married Melton Harvell McMorries in Howard County on March 31, 1946.Doris was reared in the Colorado City and Forsan communities. She resided in Tarzan since 1946 and served as Postmaster of the Tarzan Post Office for thirty-three years before retiring. Doris was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tarzan. She is survived by two sons, Don McMorries and wife Brenda and Neil McMorries all of Tarzan; seven grandchildren, BJ Stone, Brandon McMorries, Tim Stone, Coby McMorries, Sherrie Vogler, Vance McMorries, and Kyle McMorries; and fifteen great-grandchildren.Doris is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Melton McMorries who passed way in 1994, daughter, Cherylene McMorries in 2007, one brother, Ray Whirley and one sister, Wanda Daylong.
