Donnie Baker, 73, of Big Spring, Texas, passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2020 in Lubbock, TX. He will lie in state on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 from 9:00 am to 9:00pm at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at 2:00 p.m.

Donnie Ralph Baker was born on November 6, 1947 in Hamilton, TX to James and Lela Mae Baker. He and his family moved to Big Spring when he was five. He was a graduate of Big Spring High School Class of ‘66. On June 15, 1968 he married the love of his life Linda Gray.

They were married for 52 years. Donnie worked for Cosden Refinery for 13 years and then became a general contractor. He was community minded and a member of The Lion’s Club, involved in the Optimist Club, served on the Tax Appraisal Board, Big Spring School Board, and the Cosden Credit Union Board. He also served as County Commissioner for 4 years. He had a love for sports and the youth of Big Spring and enjoyed coaching baseball and soccer for his sons and grandson. He was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church.

He is survived by wife Linda Baker, daughter Meredith Crisp (Charlie), and son Marc Baker. Grandchildren Zak Baker, Callie Baker, Ashley Crisp, Kiley Crisp, Carley Crisp, Bella Baker, and Jace Baker. His sister Louise Whitaker, brother Steve Baker (Pam) and many nieces and nephews. Also mother-in-law Evelyn Gray and sister-in-laws Robbie Stewart and Tammy Gullion (Gregory) and many loving cousins.

Preceded in death by son Craig Baker, parents James and Lela Mae Baker, brother Doyle Baker, and father-in-law Zack Gray.

R.I.P., Mr. Baker, such a wonderful person. Always remembered me when I saw him. Donnie made major contributions to the community.

I didn’t know Donnie long but what I knew of him I liked. I believe him to be a good and godly man and I know when he got to heaven he Heard the Lord say well done my good and faithful servant enter into the rest. My daughter, Elisha, and I met Donnie when we went to work at Crispy's when it first opened. His wife, Linda, is who I talk to at State Farm. They are both such sweet caring people. Dear Linda, I am so sorry for your loss.

The whole world lost an awesome Dude...Donnie always had a smile and a hug for everyone. He always made kids feel like star athletes...my Alex always looked up to him, well, we all did. I pray God can carry all of us through these times...I know Donnie is hugging all of our loved ones up in Heaven.

I did not know Donnie for a long period of time, but I worked with his wife Linda. I will never forget the first time I met Donnie, he was truly a man that could light up any room. Donnie was full of wisdom, and always had something to say that would make you smile. My deepest condolences and prayers for all the Baker Family.

This is such heartbreaking news. I am going to miss going to eat and he would always give me a hard time. He would tell my husband how he got the worse end of the bargain having to put up with me. I just loved this man . He was a friend to all and all loved him back. I thank God for knowing him.

I had known Donnie for as long I have been In Big Spring. Every time I was in Crispys and he was there he would give me a hard time . This is something that I will miss. He was a good friend. Rest in peace old friend.
