Donald “Tink” Nichols passed away after a brief illness Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 11:46 AM at Midland Memorial Hospital. He was born in Knott, Texas to John P. and Myrtie Nichols June 10, 1932, his mother’s birthday. He married Lucille Mundell June 24, 1950 and was blessed with almost 64 years of marriage and four children. Survivors include his wife, Lucille Nichols of Knott; his four children, Sandra Hodnett of Big spring, David Nichols and wife, Leah of Bandera, Tammy Dyer of Austin and Chad Nichols and wife, Jackie of Knott; five grandchildren, Jason Hodnett and wife, Jenny, Mandy Anderson and husband, Phillip, Natalie Stroup, Kaitlyn Nichols and Reagan Nichols; four great-grandchildren, Hanna and Travis Hodnett and Garrett and Brady Anderson; one sister-in-law, Dovie Nichols; and several nieces and nephews. Tink was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Freddie Hodnett; and a daughter-in-law, Diana Currie Nichols; and all of his siblings which include three brothers, Barney, Claudie and Chuck Nichols; and four sisters, Kathryn Grantham, Inez Sample, Edith Condron and Johnnie Ray. After his family, Tink’s greatest love was farming and he was a good farmer. He came from an old farming family and continued that tradition all his life. He was a member of the Knott Church of Christ and was a respected member of the community. Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the Mt. Olive Memorial Park Chapel with Shawn Gary presiding. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials to the Texas Commission for the Blind, 3016 Kermit Hwy #A, Odessa, Texas 79764-7307.
