Donald J. “Ducky” Robertson, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, artist, and storyteller, passed into his heavenly home on January 15, 2025. He was born on July 6, 1935, in Big Spring, TX, where he resided most of his life. Twelve years ago, he and his wife, Dwanna, moved to Fort Worth, TX, to be closer to their family. A man of immense creativity, faith, and love, Donald lived a life that left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.
Known affectionately as “Ducky” since childhood, Donald’s life was full of color and adventure. His early years were marked by a unique brush with fame, being crowned “King of Big Spring” and appearing in Little Rascals films. Although Hollywood called, Donald chose to focus on building a life centered on his family and art, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and creativity. A skilled sign painter, his artistic talents were even recognized by Walt Disney Studios, a testament to his exceptional gift.
On October 17, 1953, Donald married the love of his life, Dwanna Robertson, with whom he shared 71 years of unwavering devotion. Together, they raised a loving family, including their children, Donald J. Robertson Jr. (Judy) of Sanger, TX, and George R. Robertson (Kathy) of Fort Worth, TX.
Donald’s legacy continues through his treasured grandchildren: Jeremy Robertson (Angie), Mindy Robertson (Chris), Joshua Robertson (Kristina), Sydnie Smith (Jake), Rebekah Williams (Jeremy), and Scarlet Damie (Chaitanya). He was also blessed with 12 great-grandchildren: Savannah, Torbyn, Beau, Luke, Jack, James, Jude, Blair, Jett, Leighton, Jemma, and Presley, and two great-great-grandchildren, Elizebeth and Phoebe.
Donald was preceded in death by his son, Ricky Robertson; daughter, Donna Robertson; and grandson, Matthew. Despite these profound losses, Donald remained a source of strength and inspiration to his family and all who knew him.
A man of humility, humor, and remarkable talent, Donald brought joy to everyone he encountered. Whether painting a sign, telling stories from his youth, or sharing his infectious laughter, he touched countless lives with his warmth and kindness. His unwavering faith, devotion to his family, and artistic spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
Family visitation will be held on Monday, January 20th, from 6:00–8:00 PM at Nalley- Pickle Funeral Home in Big Spring, TX. Services will follow on Tuesday, January 21st, at 11:00 AM, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with burial at Trinity Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Williams, Joshua Robertson, Beau Robertson, Luke Robertson, Torbyn Waltenbaugh, and Jack Robertson.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Project 4031 in Fort Worth, a foundation his family started to assist families during the end of life.
