Donald G. Haden passed away on January 14, 2023 at the age of 96. He was born in Graham, TX on May 27, 1926, to Glenn and Mineola Haden. He had one sister, Norma Haden Hoch who predeceased him on August 1, 2007.
With his outgoing personality and ability to converse and negotiate with others, it was no surprise that he became an oil and gas landman. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1949, after serving his country in the Army Air Corps as an aerial gunner on a B-17 bomber in World War II.
He got his start in the oil business as a laborer in the warehouse and pipe yard of Phillips Petroleum Company in Odessa, TX in 1949, before transferring to the land department and becoming the contracts and title supervisor in Midland, TX. It was there that he met Paul L. Davis, who later asked him to go work with him and run Limpia Royalties Inc. While with Mr. Davis, Midland’s TV Channel 2 asked him to determine surface ownership for several surface sites and acquire them for TV towers between Lubbock and Midland to bring the first TV signal to Midland and the surrounding areas.
Don went on to be associated with Mewbourne Oil Company where he worked as Midland District Exploration Manager for many years and later leaving Mewbourne to become an Independent Landman, as he remained until his death.
He married the love of his life, Dorothy (Dot) Torrance on May 26, 1950, and they had two sons, Thomas and Paul Haden. Dot predeceased him on December 31, 2014. His hobbies included golf and fly fishing for trout in Colorado Rockies. He managed to achieve two hole-in-ones in his lifetime. Don and Dot enjoyed extensive travel together in their retirement years.
Don is survived by his sons, Tom and Paul, daughter-in-law Terri, three grandchildren, Paula Hamby (Aaron), Michael Haden, and Callie Carathers, and four great grandchildren, Kylee Hamby, Haden Hamby, Clara Hamby. And Madilynn Carathers. Don was predeceased by his parents, Glenn and Mineola, Sister, Norma, and his beloved wife, Dot.
We would like to thank Bernadette Ostroff, Rosetta Stanford, Olayinka Ajibola, Heidi Gonia, and all of the Visiting Angels staff who worked as his caregivers.
A private graveside service will be conducted at Resthaven Memorial Park for his family.
