Donald E. Spence, 76, of Big Spring, died on Monday, February 12, 2007, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, February 15, 2007 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rev. David Harp, pastor of First Baptist Church of Stanton, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.He was born on December 31, 1930, in Little York, Illinois to Lewis Henry Spence and Ines Gordon Spence. He married Nellie Garrett on August 5, 1955 in Wabash, Indiana.Don served in the United States Air Force from 1950 – 1973. He had been a loan officer at Big Spring Education Employees Federal Credit Union for a number of years. He was active for more than thirty years in the Big Spring Umpires Association and in the summer youth baseball programs as a coach and manager with a team winning State Championship in 1977. He had also lived in Timberon, New Mexico where he was active in the volunteer fire department and the Timberon Chapel. He greatly loved his family and his God. He was a Baptist.Survivors include his wife, Nellie Spence of Big Spring; two sons, David L. Spence of Chandler, Arizona, and Paul E. Spence and wife, Beth of Big Spring; one sister, Wanda Tomlinson of Indianapolis, Indiana; one brother-in-law, Bob King and wife, Sue of Wabash, Indiana; three granddaughters, Charis Spence Myers and husband, Chad of Coolidge, Arizona, Kayla B. Spence and Laura N. Spence both of Big Spring; one grandson, Joshua D. Spence of Chandler, Arizona; one great granddaughter, Caylee McKenzie Myers of Coolidge, Arizona; seven nephews and four nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Anita Slusher and Norma King. The family suggests memorials be made to the Hospice House of Odessa, 903 N.
