Donald Craig Zellars

Donald Craig Zellars, 70, formally of Austin, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2026, after a hard fought ten-month battle with cancer. At his request, no services will be held.

Craig was born August 8, 1955 in Rising Star, Texas to parents Bobby Zellars and Evelyn White Zellars. He grew up in Big Spring and graduated from Big Spring High School. For work, he specialized in networking technology and lived in Houston and Austin most of his adult life. His work allowed him to travel across the United States as well other countries. While living in Austin, he became very involved in AA and often traveled to conventions to speak. Craig could be called a “walking encyclopedia”, due to his quick wit and never ending knowledge. He would often give history lessons on just about any subject including sports facts. He also had a great sense of humor, even thru his sickness. Just like many of the men in the Zellars family, he was a lover of golf. Not only did he love playing, he also loved watching PGA tournaments. What he loved to watch more than golf was his Dallas Cowboys.

Craig is survived by identical twin daughters Sophie Zellars of McKinney and Bella Zellars Pickering and husband, Chris of Wichita Falls and one granddaughter Molly. He is also survived by his oldest brother David Zellars and his wife, Cindy and family of Whitesboro, and his sister Alisa Zellars and her daughter Stephanie Mims of Big Spring, one uncle Horace (Tuffy) Zellars of Odessa along with numerous nieces and cousins

He was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, parents, multiple aunts and uncles as well as a nephew, Tony Zellars.

If Craig had a dream of doing something or traveling somewhere, he didn’t let anything stop his sense of adventure and curiosity. In the last months of his life, he often would say “Well I can’t complain too much, I lived my life to the fullest and made some good memories along the way.”
