Dixie Hogan, 93, was born in Magnolia, Arkansas, Nov. 11,1909 and died February 21,2003 in Dallas, Texas. A memorial service is scheduled for 3:00 P.M. February 22, 2003, at the Gaston Oaks Baptist Church in Dallas, Cliff Baker, Minister to Senior Adults, officiating. In Big Spring, the family will observe a private graveside service on Tuesday, February 25. That evening friends are invited to greet Mrs. Hogan's daughters, Peggy Powell and Jan Larkey with other relatives at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home from 7:00-8:00 P.M. in the family gathering room behind the Rosewood Chapel. Dixie Hogan graduated from Magnolia High School, 1931 as salutatorian of her class. She graduated from the Jefferson Davis School of Nursing, Houston, Texas, 1933, and took graduate courses at the University of Wisconsin. She married John E. Hogan, M.D. in Houston 1936. They came to Big Spring in 1937 where Dr. Hogan joined the the staff of Bivins & Barcus Clinic and Hospital. In 1938, Dr. Hogan and P.W. Malone acquired that clinic and formed a hospital partnership called Malone & Hogan Clinic & Hospital. Mrs. Hogan was active in the Hospital Auxiliary and worked in its gift shop for many years. She was a leader in the Red Cross war efforts during World War II, a member of the board of the Salvation Army, President of the Green Thumb Garden Club, and active in the Hyperian Club. Mrs. Hogan formed several garden clubs in Big Spring, especially among young women, and was instrumental in getting professional landscaping architects to design the landscaping around the Howard County Court House.
