Midland lost one of its finest talkers, storytellers, and all-around great guys on January 2, 2025, when David Matthew Williamson left us at the age of 52. He was born on February 2, 1972, and spent his whole life in Midland, Texas – because really, where else would he rather be?
Dave was a man who could strike up a conversation with anyone about anything, and somehow, he always knew what he was talking about. He was incredibly smart, quick-witted, and had a way of making people feel like they’d known him forever. He loved a good time, a good cigar, a good bet on a game, and above all else, Texas – especially his beloved Longhorns.
After earning his Bachelor of Science in Biology from UTPB, Dave worked as a pharmaceutical rep for several years before diving into the oil field, where he spent most of his career. Never one to shy away from a challenge, he started a successful business, GTT Industries, named after his favorite phrase, “Gone to Texas,” a nod to Davy Crockett. For the last seven years, Dave worked for University Lands, where he made a lasting impact with his expertise, sharp mind, and ability to connect with anyone.
Dave was the beloved son of the late James David Williamson and Kathy Hicks Williamson. Family meant everything to him – he was the proud father of Dalton and Savannah, brother to Susan, Justin, and Jimmy, uncle to Heather, Mason, Kai, Piper and Paige, and stepson to Phyllis. He was also a stepbrother to Angela and Deborah, and though not related by blood, he considered Larry Rogers a second father after losing his own in his early 20s.
Dave was a man who lived life on his terms – whether he was shooting guns, laughing with friends, or finding the best way to turn everyday moments into legendary stories. His absence leaves a space that can’t be filled, but his spirit lives on in the countless lives he touched.
