David L. Hodnett, 78, died Friday, March 28, 2014 following a sudden illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, March 31, 2014, at the Nalley Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.He was born November 20, 1935 to Loyd D. Hodnett and Winnie Inez Hodnett in Vincent, Texas, and lived his entire life in Vincent and Big Spring. David graduated from Coahoma High School in 1955 and attended Howard College. He married Annette Boykin in 1957 and they were happily married for 57 years.He was a master mechanic and spent most of his pre-retirement years as mechanic and service manager at Bob Brock Ford and at Taylor Implement. His passions away from work included fishing, golf, family, cooking, football, NASCAR, and working on boats, motorcycles and cars. He was affectionately known to many of his friends as \Bassman\ or \Papa Joe\.David is survived by his wife, Annette; his children, Angela Solis and husband, Conrad of Dripping Springs, Russell Hodnett and wife, Tonja of Big Spring and Stacey Kushaney and husband, Jim of Stanton; seven grandchildren, Teran Hagerich, Brittany Hodnett, Jace Nix, Liana Solis, Miranda Solis, Eric Kushaney, and Daniel Kushaney; two great-grandchildren, Macy Nix and Kenny Hagerich; two sisters, Sue Elliott and Nancy Graves; three brothers, Richard Hodnett, Claude Hodnett and Keith Hodnett and wife, Rosemary; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, Loyd and Inez Hodnett; his two infant sisters, Elizabeth and Sadie Carolyn Hodnett; his son, David Craig Hodnett; and his parents-in-law, Ross and Louise Boykin.Those serving as pallbearers will be Bert Hillger, Carl Wyrick, Jimmy Johnson, JR Alexander, Jack Hopper, Chuck Pearson, and Barney Hise. Honorary pallbearers are all of David's many friends and colleagues.The family suggests memorials to the donor's favorite charity.Arrangement are by Nalley Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
