Daniel John Leiker went to be with his Lord on Saturday, Dec. 20th. He was born Dec. 2, 1928 in Russell, Kansas to Daniel Alexander Leiker and Hilda Weigel. Dan married Joyce Marie Ewald on June 7, 1949 in Ellinwood, Kansas. He was devoted to his Catholic faith and was a life-time member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Stephen's Catholic Church. Dan worked for Northern Natural Gas for over 39 years as a plant supervisor in Bushton, Kansas and Kermit and Midland before retiring in Midland in 1986.Dan loved polka dancing and old-time waltz music. He loved repairing car engines and carpentry work, even making his sons' toy trucks. His grandkids and great-grandkids could always depend on Grandpa Dan for quarters to fill their piggy banks.He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joyce and three sons; Merle and wife, Christine of Midland, Loren and wife, Cathy of McKinney, and Gary of Lubbock; four brothers, two sisters, three grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Louise, parents, three brothers, and two sisters.Visitation will be held Monday at Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral Home in Midland, with a rosary at 7:00pm at the funeral home chapel.The funeral mass will be held at St. Stephen's Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 23rd at 10:00 am.
