Cyrus Deane Simpson, 88, of Midland passed away on Friday, March 31, 2017. Memorial services will be held at 3:00PM on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at First Baptist Church Chapel in Midland with David Johnson officiating.Deane was born on August 30, 1928 to Dulcie Adelene Vaughan and Cyrus Dean Simpson in San Antonio, TX. He married Lenelle Simpson on August 21, 1955 in Ackerly, TX. They moved to Midland in 2011 after spending the previous 42 years in Hobbs, New Mexico.Deane served as a church worship leader and choir director for much of his life. He enjoyed working with Texas Baptist Men in the Rio Grande river ministry, leading church revivals, and directing Boy’s Camp at Paisano, Texas. Deane loved the active life. He rode his bicycle daily up until a week before his death. He also loved snow skiing with his family and his church. He hiked Guadalupe Peak to celebrate his 80th birthday. He was well-known for his jokes and happy social interactions. Deane owned New-Tex Labs for 9 years in Hobbs, New Mexico. Deane and Lenelle moved from Hobbs to Midland, Texas, in 2011 so that Lenelle could receive treatment for Alzheimer’s. Deane was an excellent care-giver, visiting Lenelle two and three times each day during her time at the Younger Center at Manor Park. The family has requested that any contributions be directed towards Alzheimer’s research or an Alzheimer’s facility of your choosing.Deane is survived by son: Berry Simpson and wife, Cyndi; grandson, Byron Simpson; granddaughter, Katherine Noss; great granddaughters, Madden and Landry Noss; son, Carroll Simpson and wife, Jennifer; granddaughter, Mier and grandson, Evan Simpson; sister, Betty Francis.He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Lenelle Simpson.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
