Cynthia Loreen (Cindy) Schrenkel, age 62, went home to her Lord, surrounded by family, on November 11, 2021. She was born August 24, 1959 in Alice, Texas to Bertha and George Garza. Cindy graduated from the University of Texas with a BBA in Education. It was there she met the love of her life, Peter Jack Schrenkel. The two were married on August 1, 1981.
Cindy had a passion for teaching and taught elementary education for over 30 years in Gladewater, Carrollton, and Midland, TX. She loved animals and was always doting on her two dogs, Rambo and Maverick. Cindy looked forward to football Saturdays where she could cheer on her Texas Longhorns.
Cindy was a cherished member of First Baptist Midland Church where she and Pete have attended for 20 years. During her time there, she and Pete served as Directors of the Andrew and Ezekiel Sunday School departments. Even in her illness, Cindy was a true servant of the Lord, always putting others needs before her own and sharing her faith.
She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, daughter, and Gigi (Gigi the Good) who truly enjoyed her family and friends.
She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Peter Schrenkel, and her children, Ashley Lamb (Clay) and Katy Walker (Miles). She is also survived by her four grandchildren Landry Lamb, Reagan Lamb, Everett Walker, and Leighton Walker. Additional family surviving Cindy are her father, George Garza Sr. and her brother, George Garza Jr. along with nephews, Gabriel and Jon Michael Garza, her sister-in-law Elise Austin (Jim), nephew Mitch and niece Ella. She is preceded in death by her mother, Bertha Garza.
The family would like to express gratitude to the many care givers and friends that helped during her 18 year journey with cancer. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to MD Anderson or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland. There will be a memorial service to celebrate Cindy on Thursday Nov. 18th at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Midland. Online condolences may be made at www.npwelch.com
