Cloyd M. Shanks, of Midland, passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2012. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 14, 2012 from 6:00-8:00PM at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 11:00AM at Westside Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Cloyd was born October 29, 1927 to Louis and Julia Shanks in Columbus, Kansas. He was raised in and educated in Columbus, KS. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean War completing his service in 1953. He married Doris Wensil on August 12, 1970 in Lovington, New Mexico. He retired from Price Contruction in 1993. He is preceded in death by his father, Louis Shanks; mother, Julia Shanks; brothers, Rex, Richard, and Lloyd; sons, Tracy Shanks and Billy Patterson.He is survived by his wife, Doris Shanks; sons, Louis Shanks and wife, Candi of Argyle, TX; Alan "Turttle" Patterson and wife, Claire of Acworth, Georgia; daughters, Brenda Purcella of Rockwall, TX; Linda Rose and husband, Ford of Midland, TX; grandchildren, Destiny Sharp, Brockton Shanks, Julia Shanks, Ryker Shanks, Jerry Purcella, Larry Purcella, Ovella Kennedy, TaShauna Walker, and Jeramiah Rose; great grandchildren, Ashley, Justin, Colton, Scott, Ashley, Ashton, Christopher, Jessiah, Kristopher, Brendin, Antony, Joseph, Andrew, Douglas, Shawn, Bryon, and Bradin.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland. Such a joy to know that Cloyd is in the presence of our Almighty Lord and Saviour. I always enjoyed our Sunday School chats. I was sorry to see that he had become ill and was having a struggle. The last time I visited with him was at Wal-mart and he and Doris were shopping. He was riding in a cart and we had a nice visit about my husband going to be with the Lord. Now they can have a long chat!
