Clovie Lyneta (Womack) Shannon went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 10th, 2021. Visitation will be at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 13th from 5-7PM. Services will be held at First Baptist Church of Big Spring on Thursday October 14th at 10AM. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
Clovie was born on February 13th, 1933 to Clovis and Thelma (McAuley) Womack in Baird, Texas. She graduated from high school in Baird. She settled in Big Spring in 1956 and later graduated from the University of Texas – Permian Basin in 1975 and began her teaching career. She taught at Moss Elementary until 1996. Never one to sit around and rest. Clovie revived a second career later in life selling real estate up until 2019.
Clovie was always secure in her relationship with the Lord and she spent many years serving Him. She taught Sunday school at First Baptist Church, shuttled people to doctor’s appointments in Midland and Lubbock, and she was always looking for additional ways to serve others. She was a member of the Hyperian Club and loved to play bridge. She was a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys and, like church, rarely missed either. She adored her family and friends and would do anything within her power to serve them. Grandchildren came along and she became “Nana”. Nana poured her heart and love into those grandchildren and, later, great-grandchildren. Even all the way up to the end, her self-sacrifice, concern, and service to others was shining through.
She is survived by her daughter, Denise Coates of Belton; grandson Brent Coates and his wife Jennifer of Temple; granddaughter Kelsey Vu and her husband Jimmy of Celina; her great-grandchildren Cooper, Clara, & Evelyn Coates of Temple; and her nieces Sharon and Amanda Wright of Flower Mound. Clovie was preceded in death by her son Brian Clark Johnson; her parents; her sister Pat Aguilar; and her stepmother Daphna “Babe” Womack.
