Claudia McCreary passed away at her home June 20, 2014. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park.She was born Nov. 14, 1920 to Harvey E. and Ora Free Compton in Loraine, Texas. She grew up in Colorado City, Texas and moved to Big Spring, Texas and completed her education in 1942.Claudia married BF (Mac) McCreary in Big Spring on Oct. 27, 1945. He preceded her in death on January 29, 1986.She entered service with the Texas and Pacific Railroad in March 1943 and worked in the transportation department for 37 years until her retirement in October 1980.She was an active member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church where she served as Secretary of the Ladies Altar Society. She was a member and served as president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the United Transportation Union. Also a member of and served as secretary for the Lone Star Lodge and the Railway Clerks Lodge. As well as a past ten-year member of the volunteers at Scenic Mountain Medical Center.Claudia was also preceded in death by her parents, sons Warren McCreary and Michael McCreary as well as her four brothers and three sisters.She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Caryle and Taylor Smith of Lake City, Co., grandchildren Charles McCreary of Arlington, Tx; Michael Brown of Big Spring, Tx; Lara Hattenbach of Georgetown, Tx; Lisa Owen of Austin, Tx; Carolyn Lucus of Snoqualmie, WA; Michael Smith of Baltimore, MD. She is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter and a number of nieces and nephews.She was a wonderful wife, loving mother, grandmother and loving person to her many friends.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
