Clarence David Young, 84, of Midland, Texas entered peacefully into Heaven February 12, 2023. Clarence was born January 1, 1939 to James and Mamie (Cameron) Young in Harlingen, Texas. He graduated in 1957 from W. B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi, Texas and in 1962 from Del Mar Tech with a focus in electrical studies.
Clarence married Nancy (Whatley) Young on September 30, 1961 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Together, they welcomed their first daughter, Becky, in 1966 and their second daughter, Kathy, in 1974. In 1963, Clarence began working for Magnolia Pipeline Co. and over the course of 32 years, his career led his family to Luling, Alice, and Premont, Texas, Morgan City, Louisiana, Corsicana, Texas, Lindsay, Oklahoma, Bakersfield, California and finally, to Midland, Texas in 1988. Clarence retired from Mobil Oil Company in 1996. Clarence was a man of great character and integrity always putting his family first. Clarence was a man who could fix anything and always ensured his family were well taken care of. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed walking his dog, Molly, listening to talk radio, working in the yard, watching old western movies, and eating vanilla ice cream after dinner. He was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and the Builder’s Sunday school class that he and Nancy attended.
Clarence was also an incredible grandfather who was actively involved in all his grandchildren’s lives. He was “Granddad” to Lindsay, Lesley, Leah, Max, and Maddie. He was present at every school activity, awards banquet, sporting event/game and dance recital/competition. He was never late when picking up or dropping off one of his grandchildren from school or practice. He made special trips with Nancy to Lewisville, Texas to watch Max and Maddie play soccer and softball and spend time with them. He was a man that could be counted on to always show up.
Clarence is survived by his wife, Nancy of Midland, daughter’s Becky Baty and husband Bryan of Midland, and Kathy Young Borden of Lewisville, Texas, grandchildren, Lindsay Baty of Flower Mound, Texas, Lesley Seright and husband Breydon of Midland, Leah Leible and Austin Valenzuela of Midland, Max and Maddie Borden of Lewisville, Texas, and sister, Hazel Baurnfind of San Antonio, Texas.
